Spotted this also - never come across that before - really liked it - especially framing the tree.

The snow covered heather on the moor also made me smile - akin to walking across a field of rakes. Face plant written all over it.

I'd not seen any of the UKC shots of them before, so it's interesting to see this one wasn't unique. I think the snow in the linked one really helps the image.

Anyone ever seen a lunar rainbow? I saw one at Sheildaig, looked a lot like a fogbow but at night. Incredible sight, thought I was hallucinating.

There's another good one today - fogbow, Brocken Spectre and cloud inversion all at once. Right place, right time.

I've seen them once or twice but not got any photos.

I once saw a Brocken Spectre by moonlight, coming off the Ben down to the CIC with a full moon behind me. Sadly, again no photos, but a remarkable sight.

Yeah i saw a lunar rainbow driving through the Yorkshire moors one night, i thought it was a reflection on my windscreen or something so i pulled in and got out of the car and it was still there.
Very strange but it was clearly a rainbow type thing

Yes - many years ago on Salisbury Plain - full moon, big cumulo nimbus clouds and showers. Full arc rainbow - magnificent. The really strange thing is that the rainbow is in full technicolour, but everything else is essentially monochrome.

Lunar rainbows are actually full colour, and photograph like that.

However, if they are faint, then only the sensitive but monochrome rod cells in your eyes detect them, and so they appear white. (which is the same reason everything else has no colour at night).

Thats one of my favourite bits of physics vs biology geekery!

It's a small world I met Melvin in Glen Etive the day after he took that shot.He was telling me he was a professional of three years living in Preston.He was off to Norway the following week with a group of clients.Slightly jealous.
