Roc-Bloc is an exciting new bouldering centre in Cardiff. Currently under construction, we are planning for a mid-October opening with the focus on creating a spacious and modern centre with great route setting that is suitable for beginners to competition climbers.

We are now ready to recruit a core team of Duty Managers.

Whilst the Duty Managers will work under, and report to, the Centre Manager, they also need the ability and maturity to work independently, look after the centre in the CM's absence and manage more junior staff.

Essential attributes:

  • Experience working in the climbing wall industry
  • Passion for climbing
  • Enthusiastic with great customer skills
  • Ability to work in a small tight knit team
  • Confident using IT systems (ideally Rock Gym Pro)
  • Admin skills to be able to deal efficiently with bookings and enquiries
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Willingness to get stuck into whatever jobs need doing

We expect different Duty Managers to arrive with different skills and knowledge enabling them to take on responsibility for different aspects of Roc-Bloc's offering. We are looking for some or all of the following skills in the make up of the Duty Manager team:

Cafe
Roc-Bloc will have a basic food offering and of course great quality coffee. Cafe / barista experience would be beneficial as well as ideally some supervisory experience in this area.

Coaching
A strong coaching offer is a priority - from helping beginners get the best out of the centre through to elite performance coaching. The Roc-Bloc coaching offer will be overseen by the Centre Manager but a strong interest / qualifications in coaching amongst other staff will help promote this ethos through everything that happens in the centre.

Climbing hold sales
Roc-Bloc have taken on the sales of 'Beacon Holds' and we hope that one of the Duty Managers will take on responsibility for promoting the holds, dealing with enquiries and general admin.

Route setting
Excellent route setting is another big priority and we feel that all staff should be involved to some degree and previous experience/training in setting would be advantageous.

If you are interested in being part of the Roc-Bloc team please send a CV and covering letter to Emily and Steve: recruitment@roc-bloc.com

Salary: Approx £10-12 per hour based on previous experience / qualifications.
Closing date for applications: 6th September
Interviews: 13th-15th September
Anticipated start date: 14th October
