Awesome Walls Climbing Centre Sheffield Update

Work has commenced in earnest at Awesome Walls Sheffield. Rockworks are working flat out installing steel and Gin and Tonic (Big Z) are hard at it building new toilets, offices and doing general infrastructure.

A document fulfilling the required information for the National Performance Centre for England is about to be submitted to the BMC. If we are awarded the title we will be the first climbing centre in England to achieve it. The demands are long and the criteria is crucial but we think we have all the boxes ticked so fingers crossed!

Here are a few facts and figures for Awesome Walls Sheffield-

2,000+ sqm of climbing surface
102 lines with 3 routes on each
3 dedicated bouldering areas
3 auto belay lines
42sqm friendly climbing play area for children
70+ car parking spaces on site
88,000 t-nuts will be used
176,000 staples to hold the t-nuts in place
£0 amount for your membership
760 people capacity
5th climbing centre in the family of Awesome Walls

Using our knowledge and experience gained over the last 12 years in the climbing wall industry we will endeavour to make this the best indoor climbing experience you can find.

What will be the height of the tallest walls?
In reply to Dean177:

Hi Dean,

Our tallest walls in Awesome Walls Sheffield will be 15.5 metres. The actual route length of the steepest wall will be 23.5 metres. Think Awesome Walls Stockport 'Tall Wall' overhanging by 12.5 metres (if you've been)!

Thanks for the interest,

I'm looking forward to this, Dave. If it's anything like your other centres it will be a great asset to the community.

So basically you're saying this is even better than your other walls?!

Why / how will it actually be better?

That is some claim to make.
In reply to Martin Cleaver:

Hi Martin

What I'd like to think is that we're building on our experience!

Here's a mini video of the progress that was made yesterday (07/06/13)
