Not spending as much time climbing as I'd like, but steadily improving. Recently visited Ailfroide in the French Alps, which was the perfect spot for starting to overcome my dread of featureless slabs.

Best Climbing Experience
Recently visiting a close friend who is an experienced climber, I had the perfect opportunity to learn the basics and now can't wait to do more.

Best (and to date my only) outdoor climbing experience was at Calabogie in Ontario, Canada. Frankly, the so called "walk in" over an iced over swamp and bouldering between partially melted and refrozen snows was more scary than the climbing!

Heading back to Canada in late June '06, where I fully intend to crack at least a few of the easier routes up the three hundred feet Bon Echo rock.

In August I will be holidaying in Pembroke with an experienced climber, though the guides seem to suggest very few suitable climbs for my grade.

UPDATE: My Canada climbing trip was a total success. Enjoyed my first serious outdoor climbs, 300 foot multipitch routes on Bon Echo rock, rising directly out of a lake! Also did my first ever outdoors abseil, a whopping 170 feet.

Pembroke was amazing, mostly getting cragging experience under my belt, but enjoyed some sea cliff climbing at Stennis Head.

FURTHER UPDATE:
Just spent weekend watching unrelenting rain in Peak District. Had time for just one climb on Monday morning before heading back South. Went to Stanage Popular, somewhere Cargo had wanted to climb for years.

Gritstone... To my disappointment, up close most of those fantastic looking horizontal "cracks" are shallow and rounded. But the rock is amazingly grippy, and now I've topped out on one I cannot wait to do more.

Yet another update, since then I've climbed in Malta (gorgeous unspoiled featured rock) and in the French Alps.

Recently, each place I've climbed has been better than the last!
