Instructor from 1962, BMC Guide 1965. Leader of British 1st ascent of Troll Wall in 1965. Author of Troll Wall book, published 2011 winning an award at Norwegian Mountain Festival, Romsdal, 2012, also at the mountain literature award at Trento Mountain Film Festival, Italy, 2013 and Tolmezzo, 2014. Author of Adventures in The Northlands (e-book). Author of autobiography, Quest into the Unknown, 2019, all from Vertebrate. Author / joint author of guides to climbing and / or trekking in UK, Norway, Oman, Jordan, Palestine. Contributor to various outdoor magazines, UK and elsewhere. A Founder of Troll Climbing Eqpt (1965 - 1995). Since 1985, partner in www.nomadstravel.co.uk with Di Taylor, an adventure travel consultancy which gets us to places that others often haven't reached. Guest at Troll Wall First Ascents celebration, Romsdal, Norway 2015. Discovered and developed climbing in Wadi Rum with Di Taylor, Mick Shaw and Alan Baker in 1984 with approval of the local Bedouin. Also joined by a French friend in 1985 and every year after. Later, with Di Taylor conceived and worked on the development of the 670km Jordan Trail on annual spring visits for 20 years, initially just the two of us, later helped by friends. Participated in the Official Inaugural Through Walk in 2017. The Trail is listed in top 21 destinations by National Geographic and the Jordan Trail Association received an award from His Majesty King Abdullah 11 in 2018.
