I started climbing in 2008 when as a vintage coast dwelling surfer I moved to land-locked Gloucester and was in desperate need of regular local outdoor adrenaline activity.Together with bore surfing, climbing has turned out to meet my mid-life crisis need. However I still try and get to Saunton for a surf as often as possible.

When I first started I swore I would never do trad lead (surely far too dangerous) but it has now become my passion.

I am fortunate to live only 10 minutes drive from Haresfield (convenient for a quick bit of bouldering after work), 20 minutes from Castle Rock (handy for solo practise) and best of all less than an hour from the Wye Valley. I climb most regularly at Symonds Yat but think Wintours Leap is a great spot.

I try and climb every weekend if the weather is not too dodgy. If my regular partner is not available I will go solo with a shunt.

As a South African I go by the name of Dassie which is Afrikaans for Rock Rabbit. If you ever visit Cape Town you will find these friendly creatures sunning themselves atop Table Mountain. Apparently they are the closest relative of the elephant.
