Rumour has it that North Wales Police have Priscilla's Cave under 24hrs surveillance in their hunt for a group of climbers believed to be behind a series of armed robberies in North Wales. Boulderers at Priscilla's might notice a new regular face there. The man in his thirties, easily recognisable by his Ron Hill tracksters and his left arm tattoos of the CAMP and HB equipment manufacture’s logos, is believed to be an undercover policeman who is trying to infiltrate the gang.

Police first suspected that the gang where climbers when an eagle-eyed officer reviewing CCTV footage noticed that one of the gang was make strange hand movements that he recognised as subconscious attempts to "chalk-up".

A police spokesman said, "We are becoming increasingly desperate to apprehend these men quickly as we suspect they will shortly move base, to the likes of Magic Wood in Switzerland, in search of cooler temperatures."

Do you know any climbers desperate enough to fund their climbing in this way?

In reply to JLS:

I don't know about climbers, but I saw a documentary once about a group of surfers who did the same kind of thing. I believe the key is to look out for climbers with rubber masks of ex prime ministers.

If the police find some chalk at the scene of the robbery, I expect we will all be taken in and have our chalk analysed by forensic specialists!
In reply to davidbeynon: You mean you saw 'Point Break'?

In reply to north country boy:

No, I saw that documentary too. I think it was set in the north-west highlands - "Cape Wrath", I think it was called.

In reply to JLS:

Were they seen doing a sit-down start outside the Pizza Hut to make the most of such a short armed robbery?

I'm familiar with that documentary. I also saw a strikingly similar factual program which revolved around the modified car scene rather than surfing. Maybe the police should be looking for climbers driving black Honda Civics with green downlighting?

Were you thinking of Restless Natives with its cracking Big Country sound track?

Was there not also a hard-hitting documentary focusing on using the export of small English cars to Italy as a cover for armed robbery?

I think it is our civic duty to report such people.

It could end with the police waiting for the gang leader at the top of Indian Face in a hurricane.

Surely armed robbery is cheating? If you're not good enough to get the money without using weapons, you should leave it for someone who is and not cheapen the experience...

In reply to JLS: I've been attempting this robbery for years without success - can't get the crux reach into the owner's pockets. These guys came in and just flashed it without even using pads.

Inspiring.
