Collapsed! Anyone know when this happened?

No more lowering people into to abyss

In reply to nacnud: You mean that unwhitting group of students who put their bags right next to it no longer get soaked 10 minutes later when a freak wave comes along?

Look in MagnusL's gallery, he posted pics of this a few weeks ago.

Bloody hell!

I've forgotten how many times I warned students about the blowhole, only to have plenty of them soaked and numerous bits of kit swallowed up into the abyss.

Sad to see memorable spots changing.

That's what I thought. Must have been impressive to see it go!

Shows ho observent I am - I was there on Saturday and I didn't really notice ! Someone did get a soaking belaying next to me so the tradition hasn't died entirely, though.

Good information & photos. Shows in a small way the power of the sea

" and numerous bits of kit swallowed up into the abyss"

So you probably can't move down there right now without bumping into lots of climbers in wetsuits trying to recover years of lost kit...

Now that is crag swag that I would have no objection to someone claiming!

Of course there must be a 500 tonne block to be shifted first

It happens - I once spent ages trying to find a route once called Crack of Dawn at Swanage to find only an arete. Similarly, Yankee Doodle at Land's End. There is also that house size boulder at Carn Barra, I think, that is no longer in the right place.

Quite possible that there'll be no trace of the fallen block at all - the sea's a powerfull thing.

I remember seeing Bishop's Rib at Chair Ladder after the significant block had come off the first pitch many years ago; thought there's a rock trench below which should have caught it, where's the fallen block - not a smidgen of a trace - totally just gone.

In reply to all: WOW

Cheers for photos magnus.

In reply to nniff:

Yeah the one at the start of Grand Plage, it was more Mini sized. 4 or 5 tonne maybe. There's a 5a/b start to it now, probably makes the route better.

Was at Sennen last summer where the spray from the blowhole was wetting the top of the crag! Monster seas it were, but still damm impressive.
