Stanhope Ashes Quarry West

The first release of a topo is now available from http://www.rock-topos.com/

This has the first 24 routes and some pics of the sectors. It's going to take a while to get developed as the quarry is massive and all the routes are 15m-20m high. Anyone getting a guide is funding the bolts and hangers.

Jeff and I have so far spent around £500 on the bolts and hangers just here!

Check out Stanhope Dean for more sport climbing in County Durham and spread the word.

Please avoid the projects as we will get around to leading them.

Nice one! The rock topos website isn't working for me though.

Hi

Either remove the 's' - so http://rock-topos.com/ or use the actual web site it's hosted on which is

https://www.freewebs.com/costablancarock/

I'll have to figure out what's wrong with the normal link.

The number of routes has now risen to 35. Grades range from 5a to 7b. And the routes are between 15m and 20m high.

Both Jeff and I are adding more routes each week. Come and check it out.

This is the best sport climbing north of Malham and Kilnsey.

Maybe the best sport climbing in County Durham, last time I checked Chapel Head was pretty good.

Thank you none the less for everything and all of your hard work.

We are now up to 37 routes bolted (this includes a couple of projects still to be completed|).

Today there were 4 teams climbing in the May sunshine. All the routes are nicely cleaning up.

So if you are interested in well bolted limestone - 50 minutes from Newcastle, 30 minutes from Durham this is the place to come to. South facing and in the sun until after 9pm.
