UKC Logbook Moderator's Thread 2022

New Topic
This topic has been archived, and won't accept reply postings.
Thread auto-archived as it is too large

Please use this thread to post moderating requests, problem crags and suggestions. If you do post about a crag then please use the Logbooks 'Insert crag link...' box above the reply box so that a link is included which makes things lot easier to sort than if just a crag name is written.

Existing Moderators
If you moderate a crag but find yourself ignoring the update emails, or you have lost interest, or you have moved away then please could you remove yourself as moderator using the button at the base of the crag moderation page. Then reply to this thread with 'Crag Available' and the crag link inserted so that someone else can volunteer.

New Moderators
If you would like to moderate a crag, and feel you could do a better job than the current moderator, then reply to this thread with 'Crag Requested', the crag name and link so that we can arrange a switch if appropriate. We can now add second moderators to crags as well.

Thanks for everyone's help with UKC Logbook moderating. We are aware that this is sometimes a tiresome task and all your efforts are appreciated.

The previous UKC Moderator threads have got too big and has now been locked. Here they are for reference

Hi Paul,

There is a glitch in the logbook stats.

A "beefy Bert" sent me an update request for Blurred Lines (7c)

It is coming up as a trad route in his logbook but what I think he means is it is showing as his hardest (trad, clean with beta) in his "stats".

I understand this is a problem because my own "stats" show Daylight Robbery as my hardest trad on-site. Both routes are obviously labeled "sport".

Still showing up as trad in "Stats" in my and beefy bert's logbook.

In reply to kristian:

 Jon Read 05 Apr 2022
In reply to Paul Phillips - UKC and UKH:

An odd request perhaps. Could we have a new rock type added, please?  Molasse.

It niggles me that Buoux is categorised as limestone, when it really very much isn't. The rock is a mixture of sandstone (sandy deposits) and normally-deposited limestone (from marine life), and climbs much more like sandstone than limestone, at least in my experience.

Is this to micro-niche?

kristian Global Crag Moderator 05 Apr 2022
In reply to Andy Ovens - UKC and UKH:

Thanks that works however my "stats" for hardest trad route have shifted to a crappy 6c+ at Stoney. This route also appears to be correctly labeled as sport.

 Graeme Hammond 12 Apr 2022
In reply to Andy Ovens - UKC and UKH:

Just looking at the changes at Wildcat reminded me of something I noticed the other day but that probably isn't worth it's own thread...

On the main page for a crag you get the  following in the key:

?  Climbs can't be verified by a crag moderator, and they need more information to confirm it.

But if you click on any of the climbs you get the following message with a different symbol:

† This climb cannot be verified, and the crag moderator needs more information.

Should the symbols and text be the same?

Also

"Climbs are no longer climbable." to me this would be a fallen down route or one affected by rockfall.  Personally I think there should there be separate category for climbs where access is not allowed as this is different to the former, or the text should be amended to reflect both categories.

If you're deleting a climb it offers you the option of moving logged ascents to another climb. Other than that I don't think there's a way (short of Paul et al doing it).

BTW I’ve removed myself from moderator at  Chulilla Town - Boca de La Voz & Barranquillo/Falfiguera - did a fair bit of tidying up when I was there in November but I’ve no plans to go back any time soon so didn’t seem make sense to keep myself as listed for that. Having said that, Chulilla really needs breaking down into different pages for different crags. The current page covers hundreds and hundreds of climbs at present and is pretty unwieldy!

It looks like there's already a couple of mods on there, and at a glance it seems in fairly good order. Might be worth messaging the existing mods and if it's some smaller changes they could tweak it, or if it's larger changes they can hang up their moderating boots for the crag so you can take over.

 sparkass 18 Apr 2022
In reply to remus:

Hi, I was a Carrock Fell moderator until the last month or so - I don’t really understand how I lost moderator status. I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few years tidying up the logbook and am responsible for it being in good order - it was a bit of a mess before and have had lots of positive comments locally. I climb there regularly, live locally and I would like to continue to keep on top of it.

I'll have a look at this later, it'll be a bit of a job as I haven't been to the crag in ages and want to make sure I don't mess it up.

Might be worth dropping Paul a message about the number ordering. Seems to still be working for me.

Both climbs already covered at Pinnacle.

The gallery pic belongs on Warton Small, the seaside shots are just vaguely local.

bya is not a word

Carreg Alltrem is rather untidy and hasn’t been updated in about 4 years at least. Have just been for a climb there and also got the new Moelwyns guidebook so happy to do some tidying up.

Could I add support to the Rhoscolyn area as second moderator please?

Thanks, I've added you here and Rhoscolyn.

Recent posts have made me think:

”Crag X has not been updated for Y years, could I be added as a second moderator?”

Perhaps we need a cull of inactive moderators?

In reply to Mark Kemball:

Not a bad shout. I'll run some database queries tomorrow to see what would change if we removed moderators that haven't logged in in the last couple of years.

Hi Paul, it was I asking for Rhoscolyn and I think Paul was asking for Alltrem.

In reply to Paul Phillips - UKC and UKH:

Whoops bit of a mixup - can you add me to Carreg Alltrem? Didn’t request Rhoscolyn (though happy to have a tidy up there too as I’ve the relevant Ground Up guidebook and last time I looked it was a bit of a mess)

Should all be straightened out now. Paul S you're a mod on Carreg Alltrem and Dave R you're a mod on Rhoscolyn.

Congratulations! (Take paternity leave, but we'd miss you)...

These two are the same place, I suggest some sort of merging? The map location of the original (Barker Scar) is correct, while the topo link for the 'cave' is dead.

Barker Scar  Barker Scar

Barker Scar Cave

Why do some DWS routes appear with an S grade and others not? As moderator I can't figure out how to change this.

remus Global Crag Moderator 03 Aug 2022
In reply to Andy Moles:

When you're editing/adding a climb you need to make sure the DWS symbol is selected, then it'll give you the option to add an S grade.
