Yesterday afternoon (June 27th) I slipped and fractured my ankle at the base of Wild Cat.

First a huge thankyou to the 2 climbers who stopped and helped make me comfortable.  I hope all my moaning and groaning did not put you off your day's climbing!  I think one of you was called Kate.  Sorry that I did not have the presence of mind to get your details to thank you properly.

Secondly, Mountain Rescue, who carried me down to the ambulance, were magnificent.  It's humbling that people regularly give up their time to rescue people in the hills.  Thanks to everyone who volunteers or helps to support Mountain Rescue.

If anyone knows which Mountain Rescue team helped me yesterday, please let me know so I can make a donation, as well as return their sleeping bag.  Once again I forgot to ask which team you were.  I blame it on all the drugs I was given!

The ambulance and staff at Chesterfield A&E were also great.

All the Peak teams seem to be quite on the ball using Facebook to report their call outs.

You don't appear to be on Derby's page yet: https://www.facebook.com/DerbyMountainRescueTeam/

Or Buxton https://www.facebook.com/BuxtonMRT/ or Edale https://www.facebook.com/edalemountainrescue

I would have thought it would be one of those... maybe they haven't updated their pages yet for yesterday though. I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction sooner of later!

Did you fall off? Or was it a nasty slip just moving along the base of the crag?

Get well soon.

Wishing you the speediest of recoveries.

In reply to Mike Shamash:

Ouch... I hope you mend soon.

I'm pretty certain it would be Derby team responding to Wildcat.

All the best for a speedy and successful recovery.

In reply to TobyA:

Thanks Toby.

I slipped at the bottom of the crag ... so not even a climbing accident!

It was the Derby team who rescued me ... I have thanked them directly as they were magnificent.

In reply to Mike Shamash:

Thanks for the messages.

It was the Derby MRT team.   Apparently many mountain rescue teams are struggling for funding as they have not been able to do their normal fundraising activities due to covid and get very little official funding.

I have donated direct to the Derby Team - https://www.derbymrt.org.uk/p/donate

Just in case anyone is feeling generous, the national mountain rescue donation page is

In reply to Mike Shamash:

Does your UKC handle suggest you make a habit of this kind of thing?

In reply to Rog Wilko:

You're confusing him with his partner, Dave Nice...

In reply to Rog Wilko:

Hi Rog

agreed ... an unfortunate UKC handle - too late to change it now

fortunately this is my first mountain rescue call out in 30+ yrs climbing ... hopefully the last too (even if mountain rescue were very nice ... )

In reply to Mike Shamash:

Glad my facetious comment didn’t offend, and hope your injuries mend soon.
