Went to Black Rocks(cromford) without a guide book yesterday, not sure what I climbed though. I went up the right hand crack of Birch tree wall, then at the over hanging flake I fist jammed and traversed left keeping high(avoiding the low steps), and smearing with feet. I found it hard and sustained, definitely HVS-ish, then hand traverse out left to finish up "variation". any one know what this link is or have you tried the wall in this manner.
Pretty much following the right hand rope line of this picture
In reply to lm610: I think you basically just managed the hardest combination of Birch Tree Wall by it's direct start and Birch Tree Variant. Which looks exactly like what the guy in the photo has done.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Longland made some sort of spragging device for this route in the 20s. the first ever route in the world where a mechanical protection device used?
