I was ambushed by midges on Stanage yesterday.   Now I need to get some defence.

Can anyone post a link to reliable and independent studies of the effectiveness of midge repellent?

So far I've found a lot of unreliable anecdotal gossip and some self-promotion by the market leading products.   Is better information available?

Found a little bit in this review:

Search for 'midge' in the text for the bits relevant to your question as a lot of it relates to mosquitoes.

A keen eye on the weather forecast and an intimate knowledge of the Peak District crags will be much more beneficial!
