Is it possible to make a living from this? Not that i'm keen but it's always seemed a tenuous way to make a living. Out in all sorts of shitty weather pretending that your 123rd ascent of Curved Ridge in the rain is fun.

In reply to estivoautumnal:

No two days are the same, no two groups are the same, and any day out on the hill is better than a day sat in the office.

In short if you like going for a walk/climb and talking to people there are many more tedious ways to earn a crust.

Cheers Adam

In reply to estivoautumnal: Best job going. Don't need to do Curved Ridge so many times, unless you have an incredable lack of imagination. I have made a living from just Guiding in Scotland over the last two years, but I normally would spend some of the year in the Alps, Himalayas and other nice venues. Beats me why everyone doesn't want to do it as a job.

I'm no guide myself but I do know a few instructors, and they all really love their work. I think it's the sort of work you have to love, otherwise you would not do it.
