Last year I accompanied a friend climbing the old man of hoy at the the grand age of 81. Does anyone know of any ascents by people of a similar age ?

I think Mike Banks may have climbed it at a similar age and Bonington also.

Bonington did it a few weeks after his 80th birthday.

I've just done a Google and see that Mike Banks was 77.

In reply to guisboro andy:

Not quite the same age but I know a chap who did it aged 70 with his son and grandson - must be a fairly unique team!

Sounds as though he can probably claim 'oldest ascent'.

Wasn’t Mike Banks in a contest with someone called Rocket Ronnie? I forget who won.

In reply to Martin Bennett:

Lancashire - but I can't remember where from originally - might well have been out west.

Wasn't it the 50th anniversary ascent Gordon?

In reply to Sean Kelly:

I think Bonington's was, now that you say so.
