Hi I am looking for some advice- we are coming to Cluj at the end of May and would like to climb in the Apunseni mountains. Sport climbing, ideally pretty, quiet areas, 5c- 7a grades. Any advice on where to climb and also where to base ourselves to stay for the week- I am finding it hard to know where to stay (we want to walk and swim as well). Thanks for any advice

The Turda gorge is not too far from Cluj and offers plenty of sport climbing in the grades you mention.  It's very popular tourist spot, so not particularly quiet, but will have the advantage of shade, which is likely to be welcome in late May.

Rimetea is a very beautiful, and less busy site, with slab climbing again in your grade range, and a lovely, Hungarian-style village at the base.  However, it is quite exposed to the sun, so you might find it quite hot at this time of year.

Not sure what type of accommodation you're looking for, but if you're considering camping, we can highly recommend the Oude Walnoot, run by a very welcoming couple. The following link is from a motorhome site, but I’m pretty sure they accept tent campers too.  https://www.campercontact.com/en/romania/transsylvanie/mihai-viteazu/53075/...

If you go the the Turda gorge you should go down the Turda Salt Mine as well. You pay a small few and you can wander round the mines, and you end up in a giant chamber made entirely of salt, with an underground ferris wheel, boating lake, bar, ping pong tables and crazy golf!
