Can anyone tell me what the weather is doing in the Lakes today, i.e. on the hills? Is it drizzling or really raining? (hard to tell from the forecast) Just trying to plan the weekend. Cheers for any info!

Rainfall radar is clear. There's a bunch of weather stations + webcams that give you the current conditions here: https://www.cumbria.gov.uk/roads-transport/WeatherStations/default.asp

There's a UK wide list of weather stations at: http://www.weathercast.co.uk/world-weather/weather-stations.html

There's weather station data for various places in the Lakes, Keswick, Blencathra, Shap, Penrith (Newton Rigg), Kendal (Levens Hall) etc just zoom in on the map on the main page to see what locations have data. Keswick is at: http://www.weathercast.co.uk/world-weather/weather-stations/obsid/3212.html

You'll get the current observations and the previous 5-6 days so can get an idea of how wet it's been, temperatures etc etc.

It's a site that's well worth knowing about in winter as there's stations on Aonach Mor, Cairngorm and The Cairnwell etc which means you can check temperatures, dew point, precipitation etc etc and take a punt on where might be frozen etc.

It was cloudy and a bit threatening looking this morning, though warmish with a breeze on the south coast this morning, and sitting in Lancaster now it looks more threatening! But not actually raining.

It says Kirkstone Pass is frosty!

Given the surface temp is 15.8C I suspect that may be a blip... well spotted though

Heavy rain last night when I was running at Ullswater, occasional light drizzle today depending where in the Lakes you are

Cheers, Jim, always good to get the local view!

Light rain/drizzle around Langdale and Tilberthwaite areas this afternoon. The Coniston fells looked a bit grim for a while. Rainfall was low though

In reply to Heike:

Heavy rain yesterday evening for a couple of hours around Keswick. Today in Keswick it has been mainly dry with some very light drizzle around midday. Cloud base has been low, around 400 - 500m all day. With the breeze and sunshine forecast for the weekend in the north lakes, crags should dry fairly quickly.

In reply to shantaram:

Thanks. I think that rules Scafell out then...but should find something else appealing (and dry)...

In reply to Mark Eddy:

Thanks, that's what I was suspecting.
