Hi guys,

My friend and I are heading down to Dorset for the first time this weekend and wondering if anyone can recommend any discreet locations where we could park up late night and set up a couple of one man tents (obviously we won't leave any mess etc.). Going heading to both Portland and Swanage.

Also looking for recommendations for any nice pubs/cafes to get some food and drinks?

Many thanks,

Big Ron

Recommendations on places to park (ideally free) would be very welcome too!

Can't help you with Portland, but for Swanage:

Have bivvied in the past at Winspit caves - park up near the Square and Compass @ Worth Matravers (an experience in itself) and then stumble over the fields at closing time.

Also Dancing Ledge, not sure if you can do that anymore.

There's a few campsites in/around Swanage.

Good food at:
The Scott Arms - good beer garden, can get busy
The New Inn - Church Knowle
The Anchor - Swanage
Beavers café - Swanage - good for a fry-up in the morning, but gets busy.
The Ship - Swanage

Plenty of places to park up free, depends on how far you can be bothered to walk.

Cheers for the info matey!

Looks like there's quite a few nesting bird climbing restrictions at swanage at the mo, so might just spend the weekend at Portland. But will definitely refer back to this in the future
