I'm after recommendations for a good navigation book as Xmas present - for my better half who's starting to get into mountain running/events etc.

Cheers, Chris

I think there's an update version now and you can get it as an ebook...

The best I've seen by a long way.. trailguides booklet was weak..

TBH I'd recommend the Hillwalking book, for general nav

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0954151100/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550942389...

Book wise, none nav, Feet in the Clouds is an obvious classic, a sort of history of fell running and his experiences as a mid pack runner in various events and then the BGR attempts..

but then there's also

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joss-Legendary-District-Runner-Shepherd/dp/09559640...

and a new one is run wild..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Run-Wild-Boff-Whalley/dp/1471110613/ref=sr_1_1?s=bo...

Which gets mixed reviews..

If they want routes to run by far the best guides are currently in Scotland..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-Hill-Runs-Races-Scotland/dp/1907025065

Some excellent routes in there, and the Author is a very experienced..

I've not seen the latest one by Susie Alison?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1906095396/ref=asc_df_190609539611082836?smid=A3...

gets good reviews though..

Cheers Ian, great info and ideas.

She's read the Feet in Clouds (perhaps the others as well, I lose track!) and she also went to see 'Unbreakable: Western States 100' at Castelton YHA this week.

In reply to ChrisJD: How about a book voucher and the grid ref of her nearest book store?
