Recommend me some intro avalanche materials. Free or not, don't mind.

Asked the same question myself before and this was the most common recommendation. It manages to be fairly thorough but easy to read and digest, and is mainly practical info, with enough theory to back it up without straying into more academic territory.

If you read it, take everything in and can put it into practice then you'll be safer than most people on the hill. Thinking about it maybe I'm overdue a re-read... 

Agreed...Tremper's book is excellent.

There is a webseminar being hosted by the Canadian avalanche Association at the moment, the author did a presentation on the ebook yesterday. I bought it a week or so ago and have been quite impressed with it. It looks like a new approach to what is a difficult subject.

Avalanche Canada have a good Online Tutorial which is free. Obviously slanted towards North American conditions and travel (ie heliskiing and snowmobiles) but relevant and very informative all the same. It includes some interactive Q&A to check learning.

Yes.

But rule #1 is don't be first to ski the slope.   So make sure you have read the book, but your mates haven't.   Otherwise progress on the hill comes to a stand still.  Literally!
