Is Being Sguilaird a viable tour or is there a) not enough snow b) it'd be a crap tour.

I'm in Glencoe with some friends this weekend - they're planning  walking Sguilaird and I'm looking for a tour where I can spend part of the day with them but get some ski tracks as well.

I don't have a copy of the old SMC Touring in Scotland guide and I am aware of British BackCountry facebook / winter highland.

In reply to Henry Iddon:

From what I remember of my hike up there last winter the summit ridge was quite bouldery and rocky so not ideal for touring.

But I don't know the hill well enough to know if its possible to skirt below them.

I’d agree. The initial land rover track that goes much higher than older maps show would be good for skinning but the rest I think would be too rocky.

In reply to Henry Iddon:

I'd go further inland, to a bigger rounder mountain. Creag Meagaidh if you want to be obvious; Chno Dearg if you fancy being offbeat. But that's from my armchair--I haven't checked out the meteo or been skiing today or anything.

Top tip: there's a Scottish Backcountry Skiing group on Facebook. Try there.
