Hi folks,
Taken from the Southampton ski club Facebook page;
Sure it will be of use to some people.
Den

On the evening of Sunday 8 March, a meeting between the Valle d'Aosta Administration, Civil Protection Department and the representatives of the Valle d'Aosta lift companies resulted in a decision to close the ski lifts in the Valle d’Aosta region with immediate effect. This unfortunately means that there will be no lifts operating in the resorts of Champoluc, Gressoney, Cervinia, Courmayeur and Pila. Check the foreign office advisory which has been updated clarifying which areas to avoid all but essential travel. This update means most people will now be able to claim back on their insurance if the cannot go to their intended destination.

A report from the Aosta tourism department at 14.39 today (Sunday 8th) says the exact opposite, all ski areas, bars, hotels, lifts etc open.

All lifts in Alagana, Gressoney and Courmayeur are showing as closed this morning - if you check the live status.

Restrictions

The following restrictive measures, approved by the Italian government on the 8 March 2020, are valid throughout the national territory and, therefore, also in the Aosta Valley region:

closure of museums, castles and places of culture, including libraries

closure of discos, game rooms, Casino de la Vallée

restaurant and bar activities are open with quota entries, suitable to avoid gatherings of people, respecting the interpersonal safety distance of at least one metre

suspension of events and shows and closure of cinemas and theatres

suspension of sport events and competitions

from 9 March closing of the ski lifts and snowparks until the end of the ski season. Summer skiing in Breuil-Cervinia will open according to future dispositions

closure of the Skyway cable car

The cross-country ski tracks remain open.

These restrictive measures are valid until April 3, 2020

La Thuile as well, according to a friend out there (which impacts on the skiing from La Rosiere).

Is anyone actually surprised by this?

In reply to Denni:

Situation has now changed, as of Wednesday, Dolomiti Superski is closed. As for being surprised, it's not surprising, but it's going to absolutely decimate the economy here.

Yep, checked it this morning - bugger! I feel really sorry for everybody connected with the industry and its peripherals, and the owner of our all-time favourite hotel in Orsia in particular. This sucks!

Left Val Thorens/3V yesterday to get back to KSA before they close the borders. There was an obvious influx of Italians over the day or two before we left. And my wife was told by some resort staff that the Italians thought it was great as it was much easier to get there than any time before. So much for the supposed lock down of Italy to minimise its spread.
