Hello,

Planning a hut to hut tour in the Silvretta region next month. We have detailed info for the "classic" traverse but struggling to get good info on alternative routes. In particular looking for details on routes back to Wirl from the Wiesbadener Hut. We have details of an "escape route" to use in bad weather which looks like it follows the valley out but looking at the map it looks as though there are a few cols due north of the hut which might offer more interest if the weather is ok.

Anyone got any recommendations for routes from Wiesbadener hut back to Wirl? Any other must do peaks or variations from the normal route that you can recommend?

Cheers

The two times I've done it: The first time we started from the slopes immediately behind the hut and across a col northeast of the hut before following the valley to the top of the reservoir (frozen in winter), where there's a small ski lift and a hotel.

The second time, it was snowing heavily and we thought the slope behind the hut looked loaded, so we followed the summer road from the hut, then along the reservoir to the same spot. Less fun because it involves an undulating road and a flat traverse at the end

From there, as I recall, you pretty much have to follow the Klein Vermunt Tal to Wirl.

I've been to the col between the Tiroler Kopf and Rauter Kopf, then descended North down the Bieltal. Good, fun skiing on the glacier at the top. We were then lucky because the road back to Wirl had recently been pisted, so it was a fast skate most of the way back.

Are you looking at the Swisstopo map? Lots of red lines leading away from the hut:

As others have said, if weather/snow allows the route out up the slope behind hut over the col between Tiroler Kopf and Radsattel then north descent down Bietal is better than the flatter oschental route.

Silvrettahorn is a nice shortish day summit from the Wiesbadner hut as an alternative to Piz Buin (either back to Wiesbadner or onto Silvrettahutte) and might also offer a route out via Klostertal valley.

Enjoy

Thanks for the replies. The swiss topo map is particularly helpful, we're looking at an Austrian 1:25000 map which doesn't have any routes marked on it.

Looks like we have a few options to get back to Wirl

Cheers

In case you don't know:

On the Swiss Topo map you can also turn on the red shading for slopes over 30 degree. Type "slope over 30" into the search box, then click on it. In the menu on the left there is also an option to print a pdf at your desired scale and paper size.

All for free!
