Birchen Edge Planning on taking a large university Mountaineering Society group up here next weekend, 14th & 15th, for taster sessions to get new members into outdoor climbing.
We’ve run the same trip for the past two years with great success, just wondering if anyone had any tips about the area, for any particularly good climbs, or for any hiking trails nearby for those that don’t want to climb?
Thanks in advance.

In reply to Mfh23:

If you look on p.206 in the Froggatt guide there is a sketch map showing various neighbouring crags and if you align this with a walking map you can link up any number of these: all on scarp edges with nice views.

On the climbing front don't hog routes, ensure shoes are clean and maybe avoid those with especially hard starts suffering from polish (like Trafalgar Crack and Trafalgar Wall). Take care with inexperienced leaders using cams on routes maybe a bit too hard for them and already damaged (eg Topsail, Sail Buttress, Orpheus Wall). The Propriaceptive Octet (p. 263 Froggatt) is great fun in any wet weather... with a group organise one way traffic for the first four then reverse direction for the other four.
