I recall soloing that route in the late 70's too.

I was also young and immortal.

I remember being so tired on the way down that I elected to ignore the regular though somewhat circuitous path back to the hut, in favour of a direct line over the glacier, what could be more logical.

At the time I slipped into a couple of holes, nothing much past knee deep.

Even today this really makes me cringe - what might have happened, so clearly it made some sort of impression on the old sub-conscious.
