Depends for some it is cataracts, for others it is to show respect for a gunned down homey.

If this isn't a joke thread, it's so you can't see them crying.
prana 04 May 2007
In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat: yeah right, as if people woundn't notice them crying if they cover up their eyes

In reply to Fredt:

I'd say it was - understandably - to cover up the red and puffy bloodshot teary eyes as a result of crying

as opposed to trying to look 'kewl'

That's ridiculous. Why would anyone want to hide their emotions?

Because they're Brits....and that's what Brits do! It's considered a sign of weakness.

Didn't you read the instruction book your parents were given at birth?

No, sorry, don't get it. I'm trying.
So please tell me, why would anyone want to hide their emotions?

You beat me to it... I reckon it could be down to fear of being dazzled by some kind of supernatural happening, what with the religious revival that people seem to be on about a lot. It can't be to hide the tears as surely the sort of posers who wear sunglasses indoors would be only too happy for their tears to be fully visible?
