Dear Digiteers

Probably been done to death on here before -( but then again at least I am not asking whether 3 pebble slab is HVS or E1!)

Has anyone one here moved from the Nikon F80 to the D80 and can comment on the comparison (metering/quality/weight/robustness etc)

Also are F80 lenses compatable with the D80?

D80 body is super cheap in US at present (dollars for pounds and all that)

I don't think you would have problems with lenses, as the F80 doesn't fully support metering on AI/AIS (i.e. you won't lose anything). I've never used an F80, so I can't comment on robustness etc.

However, the main thing to consider is that you may not get full warranty service if you import from the states - it IS possible they will honour warranties on self-imports (I'm assuming you plan to buy one whilst you are on a trip?) from the US, but is the saving worth it? The cheapest UK D80's are from £500-520.

Hope that helps,

J

I have just bought a D80 and have an F80, quite happy with the D80 so far I had a nikor AF-S 24-85 f3.5-4.5 G on the F80 which now gives a field of view of 36-128 so I will buy a DX lens for wide angle pics, see http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html for reviews of lenses and visit the Nikon site to see which lenses will work with the D80.

http://www.bythom.com/d80review.htm gives a report on the metering also see http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/ and
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/ this site also has a users forum which I found useful.
