I think the event was raised to celebrate Cheddar climbing, to raise funds for the Childrens Hospice, raise awareness of climbing in the Gorge, for the benefit of the sponsors and the host (commercial entities) and for climbers to have fun participating.
Every event these days has a charity aspect to it, a good thing, but I don't think people are blind to the other benefits, including commercial, that these events have.
