If you join the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) in January and February 2008 and pay by Direct Debit you will get 50% off the annual membership fee.

That's £14.75 for an individual member rather than the usual £28.50.

And you can do it right now by going to this page: http://www.thebmc.co.uk/join

In reply to Glyn Jones:
Its actually £14.75 instead of £29.50, maybe Mick is still pissed from NYE.

In reply to deepsoup:

You sure it's not the BMC that're pissed? Their site agrees with him...

In reply to thomasadixon:

I've no idea what you and that other chap are on about. It quite clearly states above and in the news item £14.75.

Maybe you are still pissed from NYE.

In reply to Glyn Jones:
The £16 isn't the half price deal - it's the discounted rate for students/unemployed.
Alex Messenger, BMC 02 Jan 2008
In reply to people:

The 50% off applies to the new 2008 rates, which replace the 2007 rates online at the end of this week. So there's a small discrepency until then...
 Andy Say 02 Jan 2008
In reply to Mick Ryan - Editor - UKC:
The 2007 rate was £28.50 - the 2008 individual membership rate is £29.50. The £14.75 is half of the 2008 rate. I think that nice mr messenger is trying to update the BMC website at the moment.

Beat me to the punch mr messenger!

UKC editor in "airbrushing history" scandal, shock horror!

You got it wrong the second time too - £29.50 not £28.50. Gonna go back and edit it again? :oP~

In reply to Mick Ryan - Editor - UKC:

Unless Im not understanding this correctly and also not wanting to sound like the man off the Nationwide advert, but as a existing BMC member should I ( can I ? ) cancel my membership for this year and re take it out again thus saving me and the wife approx £25.00
The national trust do this to and it really bugs me..

Hope im not the only one thinking this, And yes having two kids I am now skint after xmas ho ho ho

 Andy Say 03 Jan 2008
In reply to mungo:
I'm sure the BMC would be delighted to do you a new membership. But I am not sure that will save you anything at all unless you're expecting a refund from them for your decision to cancel!

Not sure myself that there is the facility to cancel and claim a refund although you can get a partial refund for multiple memberships
Chris the Tall 03 Jan 2008
In reply to mungo:
I'm not sure if checks to prevent this have been been built into the system - suppose they could check to see if the bank account number has been used before

But it would be a sad reflection on the stinginess of climbers if the BMC has to waste time and money like this. Isn't it obvious that this is a fairly standard incentive to increase membership ? And isn't it obvious that having a bigger membership benefits the existing members (it can do more, have more clout and keep membership fees down for all)

In reply to Chris the Tall:

All good points mate ! And I get your drift.

Personally I wouldnt actually do it,I was just wondering out loud if people did this kind of thing...
Like the people that swap electicity supliers every 3 months!
