A journey from Alaska to Argentina on chip fat, a winter attempt on a gnarly Patagonian peak, a women’s expedition to climb a remote Chinese peak and a hair-raising ski para descent of the Eiger’s North Face are just some of the highlights of the Kendal Mountain Film Festival on show in London on 28 February 2008

UK registered charity Porters’ Progress is hosting an evening of mountain film at the Royal Geographical Society in London on 28 February at 7pm. The event will raise money for porter projects in the Himalaya and other mountain ranges.

Eleven films from the 2007 Kendal Mountain Film Festival are being featured including award-winning Psyche – Patagonia Winter; Committed Keen Youth; Aerialist; and Oil and Water Project. Three films from up-and-coming filmmakers of the Adventure Film Academy will also be screened. (See film programme below)

The dream expedition for the “Lipstick Blonds” was to ski 7500m Muztag Ata and mix adventure with their love of laughter. The quest is fuelled by hardship, tragedy, commitment and fun.

Committed Keen Youth Winner Short Film 2008
Directed and produced by Dave Brown and Paul Diffley of Hot Aches Productions
A film from within the much longer and acclaimed film Committed - this excellent short examines an obsession for gritstone.

Aerialist (USA) Winner Climbing 2008
Directed and Produced by Brad Lynch
A study of Dean Potter’s transformation from climber to an aerialist - "an acrobat who performs at height.” Dean practices what he calls the "Three Disciplines"- Free Soloing, High-lining and BASE jumping. The film is a tribute to Jose Pereyra, Dean's friend and mentor, whose death hit Dean when he was at the peak of his speed climbing and alpinism career.

Special Delivery (UK) Finalist 2008
Directed and produced by Alan Boardman, Paul Deegan and Seb Mankelow
Sonam loads a large box for his wife in his van somewhere in India and heads for home in Zanskar. On the journey he passes some of the worlds highest mountains and seems to cross centuries in just three days.
