 Al Evans 08 Dec 2002
In reply to mark o'toole: Is it as big as WICC or Westway though?
Steve Crowe Global Crag Moderator 08 Dec 2002
In reply to mark o'toole:

In reply to Al Evans: Well it's about time the North East had something to shout about and this wall will blow people's minds when they see it for the first, 2nd and third time it is HIGH AND HUGE!

 CENSORED 08 Dec 2002
In reply to mike: Aye man! But Awesome walls is run by a canny lad from the North East!!
saarlak 09 Dec 2002
In reply to mike:

I've got the price list for the new wall in front of me, and student members are down as £5 (£6 non members). When I was there on Friday there were also discussions about a weekly student night with more discount. Just trying to decide which night.

On the subject of being there, the build seems to be going well and it is huge, serious shock value when you walk in, it just goes up and up.
saarlak 10 Dec 2002
Talking to himself again:

If you're in the region, check out Tyne Tees regional news, the wall has just been on the lunchtime program and I'd guess it'll be on the evening one too.

Does anyone else think this thread is just taking the piss!
Nothing discussed but lots of free advertising.
Just enough hits to keep on the board.
David_Ballantyne 24 Dec 2002
In reply to Scott: Yes, I guess this is free advertising, but I think there are quite a few climbers in the North East (me included), who want to know how the wall is progressing. This is a useful way of doing it.
Steve Crowe Global Crag Moderator 28 Dec 2002
In reply to Scott:

The friendliness at Rock Antics, Newton Aycliffe got a plug on this board too, see

James R 29 Dec 2002
In reply to Coxie: is it true that the 23m high section of your wall is only 2m wide? surely if it is there's going ot be some big q's?
Coxie 29 Dec 2002
In reply to James R: 2m wide..santa lives!....try 11m wide ...happy new year!

mo 30 Dec 2002
In reply to Coxie:

sorry to spoil to fun, not the highest in europe, as far as i know, that one is in the netherlands near rotterdam: an indoor-outdoor climbing hall formed as the matterhorn (outside 34 m, inside 27 m of climbing)

try http://klimgids.climbing.nl/rotterdam/cervino.html

still impressive though!
OP Scott 30 Dec 2002
In reply to Coxie: For F*&$s sake change the rocord!!!!
Yeah so what. Will anyone get to the top without a rest?
will the routews be doable by mere mortals????
Steve Crowe Global Crag Moderator 30 Dec 2002
In reply to Scott:

Come on Scott, if Coxie can get up some of the routes then anyone can!

Mostly F4's to F6's with F7's up the middle and boulder problems by Mark Savage and Chris Graham now they should be interesting.

Get your self there on the 11th January and let us know what you think.
Dave Knapton 03 Jan 2003
In reply to Coxie: Is this when we can all start using the wall then?

Please please let me know.

i'm busy packing my oxygen tanks as we speak, (or should that be type?)

Paul 03 Jan 2003
In reply to Coxie: the high bit in the photo doesnt look 11m wide to me, and your not the highest in europe so wouldnt this now be false advertising?
OP Scott 03 Jan 2003
In reply to Paul: Go Paul give it to um, yeah I agree it looks about what? 3m at the most! average width I suppose
Paul 04 Jan 2003
In reply to Coxie: Yeah that wall mentioned by mo has a 24m indoor section so would that not make the claim of the highest indoor wall slightly false? how u doin scott? i cant believe im on here at this time, which one is it big or little?
Whispering nic 04 Jan 2003
In reply to Paul:
Er, I'm gong to piss on the bonfire too, having worked in a wall at Vaulx-en -Velin in Lyon wot was built on the side of a tower block. It is 50m tall and has a wierd retractable roof/wall thing, and spends most of the year indoors, so nuh. Routesetting was quite a challenge.
Coxie 07 Jan 2003
In reply to Whispering nic: Yeah but this is always indoors at 23m..happy new year...and has 11m wide seriously overhanging comp wall

I think its about 18th of this month but don't quote me on that.
PS I'll be after a climbing partner for this wall for a mid week night once every 6 weeks.
Any offers.
I now lead up to 6b.

In reply to Dave:

I'm all for the boasting, we've been waiting for years for a big wall in Tyne & Wear. It is considerably bigger than anything else in the country. I don't know of anyone who's seen it who wasn't totally blown away.

At least he's honest about the measurements, I've been to some places that I'm sure weren't the hieght they advertised.

I'm sure Coxie would change the topic heading if he could now that new info has come in.

Oh and David, maybe the 18th or 25th, I guess as soon as it's ready is the safest answer, and before you say it, I know how little help I am. : )
curlin 08 Jan 2003
In reply to Coxie: I don't know, some of you people out there are way to serious, it may not be the 'biggest' wall in the universe and who cares if a wall in the netherlands is 1 metre higher, its a new wall with new routes, its in my backyard, my mates work there and were going to have a laugh watching the more serious of you people stamp your feet in a childlike frustration when you keep peeling of the wall, happy new year, take care of yourself and each other.
Coxie 10 Jan 2003
In reply to saarlak: Looks like we're on for the 25th..come and get blown away!

Open fun Bouldering comp Saturday open Lead comp on the Sunday.....Come and start climbing on Monday 27th...Get in there!

is that in Europe or just the UK??

In reply to Coxie:

No just a big Power Room full of free weights, campus boards fingerboards, ladder, rings, a hinged variable angled board with loads of heinious slopers and good vibes on the airwaves.
