I suspect not a lot, what with it being the weekend before Christmas. Shopping etc.

The weather was pants too.

My highlight was delivering Christmas cards on my motor-bike this morning. In the rain.

Hopefully the coming 2 weeks will be a little better.

Flew to India Friday, sat on the beach, surfed, too much coffee, no sleep so far and still worse jetlag I've ever had, but it's all good!
In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat: Wandered around the Malverns looking at various crags - wish I hadn't

Taught 8 year old son to prusik up the side of the house, switch to belay device & ab back down.

In no particular order:

Slept... played with pictures and posted onto Flickr... generally felt under the weather, too rubbish to do much really... went to a damn fine party... put an ill-advised post onto ukc... went to bed at 6am... thought too much about things... wrapped presents...

Lots

Finished work on time at 6pm Friday, came home, faffed about then went to Sheffield with the Jez to visit Flicka. Plenty of wine later, collapsed into bed, but on Saturday miraculously had no hangover. We all went to Outside for brunch, then walked over the moors above Stanage for a few hours, before decamping, rather soggily, to the Millstone Inn for a drink. Pottered in some shops, dropped Flicka back home, then drove over to Stoke for Cidernut Sarah's Christmas party. Brilliant time there, and we had intended to stay, but Jez had to be in Suffolk or somewhere today, so we decided to leave at 1am after bopping around Sarah's sitting room, decked in tinsel, to much 80s nostalgia music. We left to the strains of Star Trekkin, and I got home at about 2. Jez carried on south. Had a great lazy day today, involving catching up with some iplayer stuff, messing about with games on the laptop, and cooking a full roast dinner "just because".

Back to work tomorrow, but the weekend's been fun!!

PS - greetings to Queen Tinseltits, from Queen Chalkytits. You know who you are

Have had two walks with different people in the rain in the Peak (around Stanage yesterday and around Burbage today). Had friends to stay on Friday night and a quiet Saturday night (which as I was dead tired turned out to be a good thing! Felt incredibly mellow.) Today I had a very lazy start, the walk and more chillage. Am now on holiday and have some cool plans lined up before Christmas (Not hugely exciting, like, but I'm fairly sure they will be enjoyable!) Also hoping to catch up with a few peeps between xmas and new year, will see what happens!

Sunday morning looking good. Drive up to the Peaks, head to Rivelin to see if it's any good in winter. Greeted with rain at Ladybower. Turn round, head back south, rain peters out at Calver. Carry on to Matlock, looking more promising. Sudden burst of rain. #%$*!!! Oh well, might as well have a look at Black Rocks as planned. Rock mostly covered in wet, green, yucky stuff but a couple of bits are in condition. Managed three routes, including a two pitch one - always fun on grit. Gaia looked in condition but didn't bother with it as won't have been able to claim an onsight having seen it on video a few times.

Saturday afternoon nice MTB ride on the Malverns - need the practice as I'm not very good at it! Dry, a bit windy, hardly anyone around. Thought about the crowds invading the shops to buy things they mostly don't need (aka supporting the economy). Last 45 minutes by headlamp. Might need to invade a cycling shop to get a better headlamp, or just make sure not to miss the train on the way out.

Saw the bloke off on his flight to Austria (sob, sob). Dug out blanket, pyjamas and hot water bottle. Did lots of ironing, watched football and snooker on TV. Wrapped presents. Put skype on the laptop so I can talk to the bloke. Went out on the road bike - still very nervous. Ran 9.5 miles in a wind that was rather stronger than I realised when I set out. Set up a Flickr account and put some random photos on it.

A nice weekend apart from the lack of bloke...

In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat: all taken up with christmas stuff. Saturday went to farm shop to get meat for Christmas meal, cleaned the oven, made christmas decorations. Sunday got Christmas tree, made quiche and cheesecake and christmas cards. Visited friends in the evening which was nice, normally i'd see them when i was 'home' over Christmas but not going this year.

In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat:

Went to a work's do Friday night.

Saturday failed to have a lie in as I'd somehow pulled muscles in my groin and shoulder the night before (how?! I wasn't even drinking), and woke in pain. I prepared for my party, including trying to fit a new flush button to the toilet, which involed taking the cistern off - and being unable to put it back without it leaking (ran out of time so resorted to towels under the drips) and making lots of food (I did wash my hands inbetween!)

Hads lots and lots of fun when everyone came over. Managed not to get stressed cooking food, guessing who's who in old photos, played random party games (pass the parcel, the memory game, and the chocolate game), and listening to old music. There was a 'nostalgia' theme in case you hadn't guessed. My front room is now covered in polystyrene balls where someone burst my 15 year old bean bag! lol

Sunday a small group of us went for a walk around Danebridge and had a look at Lud's Church, cool feature. Then popped to the pub for a speedy real cider - can't miss out a trip to one of the few pubs in the area that sells the stuff, even when short of time - to find it no longer sells it! Run out of real ale and half the lagers too.

Said goodbye to two of the remaining guests at 4 ish, then watched 'The Devil's Backbone' in the evening with the last 2 instead of doing chores. Just about to head to bed at about midnight, when I got caught up in a late night plumbing/electrics emergency, where towels under the toilet have become saturated and the water from the toilet is leaking through the kitchen ceiling in two places, one of them being through a light socket, eek! Spent a while preventing disaster, tonight's job - fix it!

Ooh, what a great idea! I've already got my turkey (ordered), but instead of getting the veg and stuff from the supermarket, I should go to the big farm shop in Trentham, they should have most of what I need. Ta!

Friday - got blizzarded(*) off en route to Coire n t'Sneachda. Retreated. Reassessed. Struck camp. Went to Kinlochleven Ice Factor for a session, followed by 5-hour drive back to English HQ.

Saturday cragging briefly, did a quite enjoyable sandstone route at my top-end

Sunday cragging briefly, did a great classic sandstone route in my comfort zone but in preposterously windy conditions

* maybe not technically a blizzard, not sure - high winds made the spin-drift into a laceration whiteout; is that a blizzard?

In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat: Finished the main christmas shopping Saturday. After a lie in on Sunday and a chat on the phone with sutty, went to Hyde Park for the Winter Wonderland just before sunset. Parking ticket machines full so free parking - yippeee! Winter Wonderland was a crush in the funfair bit but the German Market was nice managed to eat Frikadellen; teeny pancakes with chocolate sauce; drink cherry gluhwein and then hot chocolate with a shot of rum and topped with whipped cream. A said I should have been sick! A bracing walk back to the car followed by steak for supper at home. All in all s nice pre-christmas weekend. Off work today to finish fresh food shopping and see the specialist about my groin strain (think he will sign me off as it has improved and I can now cross my right leg over my left).
