Watched a documentary on this man's life last night. He was a very interesting character and actually set to become a concert pianist. He was instrumental in preserving the concept of "wilderness" in America after the frontier was declared "closed" and created a vast protected area in the Sierra Nevada.

In reply to Removed User: Might have been the film they showed in edinburgh while they had some of his photo's on display. very inspirational. It's just a shame that the gallery added £30 to the price of their prints just because of the artist.

Saw the exhibition in Edinburgh 3 times because I think some of his work is sensational. Would love to own a print or 2 but as the other poster commented they were a bit steep.

In reply to Removed User: He was also the only 'independant' to own a business not owned by the Currie Company in Yosemitie!

Remarkably, he didn't become financially secure until he was in his seventies.
