[Pete Whittaker - UK's Ugliest Climber 320, 4 kb]Pete Whittaker has grabbed the second ascent of Ugly at Shale City on the Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales. The route was first climbed by local legend George Smith and tackles a severely overhanging shale off-width and groove.

Sometimes I think I lack an adventurous streak, other times I conclude I'm just sane. I'm impressed be such exploits but feel compelled to hold back from congratulation there author for fear of encouraging them towards further such madness!

Having studied the footage intensely I'm surprised this is news....there are hundreds of routes like that; we give them the collective title "Scottish Diffs".

He also loses an E point by it not being actually raining.

Nice one Pete.

I should add that I added 4 new pegs to this route in the upper section, to replace some of those that I and Jack had pulled out. They make the top section that little bit more realistic and a bit closer to the route that George did when he climbed it.
