Just wondering if there is a list/article explaining the various terms encountered in winter climbing such as verglas/neve etc had a brief search but no great success.

In reply to jamface: I think what you might need is a french dictionary or look in Fyffe and Peter's book "A Handbook Of Climbing". I have a suspicion that some of the old Bonington expediton books had helpful glossary sections too.

a french and an italian phrasebook should cover everything except the recent gnarly, rad, beta-maxed, hyper-direct, sick, suffer-fest newspeak from california.

I personally prefer to search for each word/term as I can get deeper into the subject from different sources.
