[Mark Walker on the Direct start to the Orion Face, 2 kb]This is the eleventh of our regular series of Scottish winter conditions updates from Dan Goodwin of MountainPlan.com.

"On Aonach Dubh a teams climbed number 6 gully but the thaw will be greatly effecting these slightly lower icier climbs now."

Made me smile a little given the huge waterfalls I saw coming down all of the Aonach Dubh gullies this morning ... the only routes on this face that are even complete now are gullies 1, 2, and 3 (at the middle tier only). The rest of the face now consists of wet rock and discontinuous snow patches connected by foaming torrents!

Aonach Dubh's really taken the brunt of the thaw, with almost all of its snow cover vanishing over the last week.

In reply to UKC News: Saw some ice coming down on Lurcher's crag on the Wednesday so definitely warming up there. Been up trying to get practise in for Winter ML doing some walking but the conditions aren't very favourable. Might be forced to do a bit of climbing instead : ) Hoping the avalanche situation should be getting a little less serious once the snowpack starts freezing again, very slushy walking to Braeriach. Last 2 days have been write offs with very windy conditions but should have gone for a climb in retrospect.

In reply to UKC News: Does anyone know when the picture of the Orion face was taken?
In reply to Rob Adie:
