Second hand touring bike - how much should I pay?

I know very little about bikes and am after some advice. Thaks guys.

Looking at the second hand bike described below :

'Ridgeback Panorama MD/56 cm for sale. V.G.C. only about 800 miles "on the clock". Reynolds 725 frame, Dura Ace/XT 27 spd transmission, Blackburn equipped.'

It is five years old and advertised for £499

Alternatively I could buy something very similar for £1,199 new (less a 15% discount)

Any clues as to what might be a better deal?

Buy it, that sounds very cheap for a 725 framed bike. Mind and check that it fits you.
