I've just arranged all my climbing gear in neat IKEA boxes. Clear see-through plastic, so it's all really neat and tidy. I want to store it that way for months, is this in any way a bad idea? I live in a Scandinavian country where I won't get much use from most of the gear in the cold seasons. Recently someone pointed out to me that the gear could somehow suffer in an airtight compartment.

So the question is; would an airtight box keep my gear safe?

In reply to eivindf:
I suppose if your gear was damp when you put it away it might suffer with a bit of mould/mildew. Hard to imagine what harm could come to it otherwise though.
Is it damp at all?

In reply to eivindf: If you're worried, why not drill some small ventilation holes in the boxes? and/or put in some dessicant silica gel sachets or give any metal equipment a light spray of WD 40 to keep the damp off
