The year is drawing to a close, and if the wintry weather continues I'm sure there are still a few photogenic days left to inspire before Father Time calls Last Orders on 2010.

Care to share some of your favorite images that you have taken during 2010?

Cheers Mike! A case of being in the right place in the right time mainly!

I particularly like the third one of yours.

Agreed.

It's very hard to be objective about ones own photography due to the emotional attachment you have to whatever memories the shot evokes, so I'm struggling a bit! From this year I have a couple of pictures which interpreted the scene in front of me in the way I wanted them to and gave me a sense of satisfaction...

although my 'favourite' image of the year is probably one of my ferret or something

In reply to The Lemming: My favourite image from this year (so far...) is this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/8411024@N08/5149025260/ just because it's so unusual, for me at least, to find Buttermere so tranquil.

Have amended that - god knows why it was private. It's of my nephew. I've still got pictures of my niece to print - hurrah!

In reply to Tall Clare: Ooh, it's lush. How do you get such a gorgeous texture? Is it the film you use?
 Tall Clare 10 Dec 2010
In reply to Alyson:

I've been wondering about this too I can only ascribe it to the lenses I use, that and the fact that it was quite dark - it's just Ilford HP5 (shot at 400 iso) I think people are a bit sniffy about Yashica but their lenses seem to work for me.

Thanks. I look at it and am so tempted to photoshop in a slight plume of breath as if it was taken in the cold. I think that would look great but it breaks some kind of mental code of photography conduct for me!

I really like this one by a friend of mine when we on Muztagh Ata this summer. Dawn at 7,100m, taking a rest and making radio contact with the team.

Nice thread, as I've just looked through all the images I've uploaded to Flickr this year, I'd forgotten about a few and some I thought I'd taken in 2009 - it must have been a long year

Here are a few that I'm proud of:

I can't believe how few images that I have taken this year. Next year I will have to get a life, and get out more.

However here are a few of my favorite shots of the year. I particularly like the flying axe image as these chaps weren't messing around because they were trying to take lumps out of each other, for fun!

I think I'm going to add you as a contact on Flickr - 'land art'/'environment art' or whatever it can be called is something I need to start doing more of.
I have a long-standing penchant for constructing little 'temples' (for want of a better term!) out of driftwood and the random high-tide detritus of British shores...

Sorry, that was off topic... there's some fine work in there

I think I said it on one of your images in the summer, but it's worth saying again - the narrative you put next to one of your (ace!) images was a huge help in prompting me to make a brave move photographically, so thank you for that.

The thing I like best about what you do is that it all looks so simple... until you try it

In reply to TallClare: I'm really touched. What I write are ponderings that come to me when I am making something, often on a Saturday afternoon. For some of that to have reached out to someone to help them in some small way is really quite touching. I don't know of anything that I'd rather hear. So thank you.

In reply to Mick: Thanks Mick. My art has replaced climbing in my life (save for a couple of grade 1 gullies each winter), since I gave up climbing a couple of years ago. I can't help lurking on here despite that, and regardless of the whinging about 'what UKC has become' - there isn't another forum like it anywhere else! The characters that make up this place are like nowhere else I've ever been. Whether they climb or not.

In reply to PontiusPirate: Thanks PP! I started to make things only a couple of years ago, completely out of the blue, after being inspired by Andy Goldsworthy's art. Since that point it has taken over my life in a completely unexpected way. I'd never really done any art before that and the effect it has had on me has been quite profound. I now try encourage everyone I can to make things in nature as it has brought me such joy. If it is something you have been doing for a while then get stuck in! There is quite a community of land artists on Flickr. Search out the Land art Connections group. We run monthly themes and invite anyone who is interested to get involved. You'd be very welcome to join us and I'd love to see your creations.

In reply to Escher: Enjoyed looking at everyones images tonight. Nice to see yours too as I've not seen yours before, have you seen Chris Drury's work on land art?
 Escher 10 Dec 2010
In reply to Removed User: Indeed, everyone's images here have been a thrill to see. I've really enjoyed looking at them all.

I'm a big fan of Chris Drury's work and he has also been a big inspiration to me. It was through being a big fan of environmental art and buying quite a few books of the genre, that I initially started to have a go myself. There's something really thrilling about making art out in natural places, that is similar to climbing for me. You really get the feel of a place, like you might, when you lay your hands onto rock. I feel alive, like I do when I climbed.
Removed User 10 Dec 2010
In reply to Escher: I built a walk in camera obscura once out of hazel and willow opposite Dovedale that had a reference back to Chris and his cloud chambers. I do like his work.

Unfortunately not, they were a few on a hard drive that died a couple of years ago, there was one on FB but I've checked and my friend has had a cull by the look of it. There is a lesson in there somewhere about backing up images from years ago :-0 I might do another one again sometime if I can get some funding.

In reply to Escher:

Hi

I've not come across your work before but just had at look at your Flickr links. It's lovely...but (and I really hope you'll forgive me saying this) it looks a bit too much like Andy Goldsworthy's work, although perhaps with a little more geometry to some of it. Certainly he has done a great deal of leaf and twig based work as well as snow and stone. But then maybe he got his ideas from you?! Anyway, not really meant as criticism (because I love both) and influences are good etc., but maybe more independence?

Done very litle photography this year, so no winners here, but these are probably the most interesting of mine....

http://www.drav3d.com/images/nightfire_small.jpg

Night firing at Lulworth cove, you can kinda see the DWS cove in the mist behind

http://www.drav3d.com/images/challyflame800x600.jpg

Challenger 2 firing on the big ranges behind Lulworth. Was interesting to see what goes on on the flipside of the Army vs climbers issues!

In reply to The Lemming: Though it wasn't taken this year, I'm very pleased to have got some slide scans done recently. there's a few nice shots but I think this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/8411024@N08/5250553789/ is my personal favourite, just because of the way the glacier looks. At first glance it could be almost be a foaming sea...

Or maybe it's just me. Anyway, I like it.

In reply to The Lemming: These are a couple of my favourites, I wouldnt say theyre the best of 2010 as thats a massive claim and I took them but theyre my favourite ones from this year because of what was involved to get them, we spent nearly 13 hours underground to get there and there was some difficult going, including about 200m wirth of abbing and jumaring, and climbing some evil choss but it was worth it.
