I think they've had some server trouble so it may not currently be a priority.
In reply to stewieatb:

You may be right, but I've been having some trouble with their site for a while and I sent them a polite email the correct way (through the 'contact us' button or the equivalent) and still no reply. This was 4-5 days ago...

Ah well, UKB it is...

Surly if it had paid advertising on they would leave it a bit longer to fix. More people check it to see if it is working this way!

Oh crap - I think that list spurs on a new New Year's Resolution from me! Number 15 is embarrasing (although I did have a very quiet start to last year).

I've just noticed that posts in the pub are not included though, so I guess that may not be a true picture of who is most active on the site (I turned off the pub and off belay months ago as there was too much dross). whether that's true or not, I'm clinging to that as my excuse!
In reply to UKC Forums:
I must admit I'm abit disapointed it doesn't include posts in the pub. I'm sure I should be on there.
 Blue Straggler 10 Jan 2011
In reply to UKC Forums:
Given that I only posted about 6 times between September 19 and the end of the year, that is rather embarrassing!

Can we omit all Culture Bunker posts where I mention Charley Varrick? That alone should drop me a few tens of places

Only if you were writing for a publisher specialising in serialised fetish fiction about a young man who enjoys dressing in Victorian tweeds and polishing his long shaft whilst fantasising about the sexuality of Mallory and the later Cambridge climbers

Yes it does. Do you have the old version cached?
In reply to Blue Straggler: Your browser has cached the old broken version of the page - reload the page with Shift or Ctrl key held down.

Cheers

You need to include the other forums - I am 13th and as I am hardly ever in the Top 40 it is all a bit silly.

I still don't understand the distinction made between in the pub and off belay?

Could be ... except I'm not writing about Mallory!
In reply to Al Evans:
I thought off belay posts were non climbing related stuff that we might want to keep and look back on, pub is the stuff that disapears after a while.

You wanted to once though didn't you, until Jeffrey Archer beat you to it?

Yep, that still irritates me--I probably know (and care) more about the subject than he does, yet he snuck through the door first ...

On the plus side, if I had written the Mallory book, I wouldn't have discovered the story I'm nearing completion now.

Ah, that's fixed it. I didn't know that trick, so thanks.

Also, relieved to see I didn't feature. Working from home some of the time this is encouraging!

Unfortunately it depends on which browser you use, and which operating system you've got on your computer. So for some users it is Shift, some Ctrl, some both, etc.

Agree with you guys. I am a 'regular user' but have stopped being drawn into long arguments with Bruce Hooker so rarely get 'off belay' these days and never go 'down the pub' - I don't even have it turned on. I don't think I'm in the weekly top 40 very often either.

I suppose we could hope that the top 100 shows the top 100 most useful contributors (answering questions from newbies etc.)? Or at least the top 100 people actually interested in climbing?

In fairness, Sutty definitely does a lot of answering questions from newbies.

Maybe a karma rating is what's called for.

Nick, when did Off Belay posts stop contributing toward recorded post counts?
In reply to Blue Straggler:
> Nick, when did Off Belay posts stop contributing toward recorded post counts?

Err, where does it say Off Belay posts don't contribute? They do! As the Top 100 page says:
"Note that we delete around 3,300 'short term' messages each week, including old 'The Pub' and 'For Sale' posts,..."

Basically anything that gets deleted isn't counted towards the total - so the total is posts from all the forums except The Pub, Lost & Found, Lifts & Partners, For Sale/Wanted.

Is this list indirectly proportional to how much a person contributes to society?
 Offwidth 11 Jan 2011
In reply to joe king:

Quite a few on that list have done an awful lot for climbing, and for society in a wider sense. So what's your contribution Joe?
 fimm 11 Jan 2011
In reply to UKC Forums:

It is quite interesting to loook at the other stats - I think plexiglass_nick has the highest number of words per post, with Coel Hellier and Bruce Hooker (perhaps unsurprisingly) also scoring highly on that count.

Similarly, Coel just beats Blue Straggler for total number of words posted.
