Awesome. Sounds horrific! And amazing (and says a lot about these forums) that this has less replies than some rich kid getting dragged up the seven summits. That shouldn't even be news, this is proper.

So they didnt summit? Would this be an attempt then?
 RBK 28 Jun 2011
In reply to j mace: It depends who you ask, certainly Colin Haley thinks so and his recent blog post made interesting reading as ever. I would say it's definitely a route, when somebody subsequently climbs it in better style it will be a great effort .

In mountaineering there are no set rules and its up to the climbing community as a whole to decide what is acceptable or not. 'The Cartwright Connection' is not the first new route on the North Buttress of Mt Hunter which was not climbed to the summit. In the alps new routes are normally claimed if they join up with existing routes and then rappelled.

It often seems that people apply one set of rules for some and different rules for others! I got slated by some people for claiming the first complete ascent of the NW face of Mt Kennedy (The Artic Discipline Wall).

Most of the people who cast judgement are completely unimformed......do yourself a favour and get out climbing instead of talking about it.
