Best warm jacket for winter?

I'm a cyclist in very windy and cold Cambridge (come winter.) At the moment I've only got my nuptse down vest, which was nowhere near warm enough. Is it better to go for a full down jacket, or a ski one?

Cheers

In reply to pip-pop: For cycling?!? I reckon a down jacket is overkill, I wore a Buffalo Special Six last winter when it was less than -10, any other time I had a soft-shell and two base layers.

However, there's an old guy near me who cycles in a Rab duvet all year round!

When I cycle in a very windy and cold Aberdeen over the winter months I rarely wear much more than a microfleece under a wind shirt/lightweight waterproof otherwise I get too sweaty. I used to sometimes wear a Rab Vapourise smock which works well. I think a down jacket might be overkill, even when it's really cold my primaloft jacket is too warm.

The trick is to cover all your body parts. No jacket will be enough if you are not wearing winter gloves, winter socks and a hat. A fleece and a windproof/rainproof should be enough.
