In the brilliant new film about the Long Hope route shown at Kendal on Friday, there's a scene towards the end in which Dave or Andi are shown cleaning a rock with three sets of initial carved into it - ED, MD and OH. ED is Ed Drummond, OH is Oliver Hill - who is MD and what's the story there?

In reply to tony:

In reply to scott titt: Always wondered, was he called Edward Ward-Drummond by his parents (odd choice of first name, if so, but no stranger than Edward Woodward I suppose) or is the Ed Ward a self-styled spelling. His writing has a tendency to play on/with words so renaming himself Ed Ward- seems a possibility.

In reply to matt perks:

Ed was Edwin Ward-Drummond, so sadly no Joycean word-play.

In reply to duncan: I THINK, he took on Ward as it was his wifes name when he got married.
