In reply to jdawg_85: might be a good idea to be more specific about the grades you are looking for...

Idwal Slabs are pretty hard. Definitely not what I'd describe as 'spongey'.

And in which part of the country - unless you're not fussy

Surely one of the hardest has to be Stanworth Quarry in Lancashire. Not much to look at but desperate.

In reply to Ava Adore: Not fussy, just trying to come up with some lists for next year.

As for grade, HVS and above, again not fussy. Sport routes also welcome!

Check out Waves of Inspiration at ravensdale. One of the best slab route's I've ever done, but not that hard. Easier again are the routes in the slate quarries of the lake district and north wales, but it depends on what you mean by hard! There are some ok gritstone ones.

In reply to jdawg_85: ok shall i say it?? ...... 3 pebble slab. lol

check out amorican at pembs or anything on that strecth of coast. the sandstone means your placing a lot of small small wires.

sure other will have better options

My favourite Peak grit slab routes are:

Elegy - essential!
San Melas - beautiful!
Fringe Benefit and Party Animal are both good
Froggatt ones of course.

Barcud, North Pembroke is fantastic. Crimpy slabs but with friction - Sinecure, Be Clever were ace, Kitten Claws is the harder classic.

Pull My Daisy is a very good slate route, plenty more like that.

Whilst you're visiting the Etive Slabs, make a wee trip to the Ring Crags on Ardnamurchan for quality Gabbro slab goodness.

In reply to robin mueller: Where does that route go? Up the clean streak on the right?

Where do you want it to go? Hang on a minute, while I get my chisel.

In reply to jdawg_85: Some of the more aesthetic options have already been mentioned, but if you are not too sensitive about surroundings then the sport routes at Barland Quarry (Gower)http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=2627
will test slab technique to the max. There are some good E1 - E3 lines at Fairy Cave Quarry in Somerset too.

There is a good UK's best slab routes ticklist here that might be of interest:

Go search it out. Still waiting for a second ascent I believe....

In reply to Franco Cookson:

"Climb the slab between African Queen and Stranded Passenger starting left of
centre and trending right to an undercut and higher again to an obvious good
hold. Step left from this good hold to gain and finish up African Queen and
avoid the grass cornice."
