In reply to victim of mathematics: It would have to be pretty impressive, think High Velvet may end up being an all time favourite for me. Just such a good sound, his vocal is perfect, lyrics excellent and the mood is bleak and beautiful.

In reply to ksjs:

Hi ksjs.

I agree with Victim of Mathematics. Alligator has some good songs and one amazing song, 'Secret Meeting' to my mind.

Personally, I think High Violet is better than Alligator.

Boxer is a complete show-stopper, with nearly every song an absolute belter. Just the way the drums come in on Fake Empire, I found totally mesmerising. Fake Empire, Apartment Song, Racing Like a Pro, Slow Show, I'd count them all amongst my favourite songs and all on one album!

I've got their first 'The National', which isn't very polished and the songs aren't as good. Not heard their second 'Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers', but I believe it's a bit like their first.

Unusual band in that they didn't start to get really good until their third album, when other bands are often slowing down.

I said Blackmore's Night. When you are in the mood for some medieval lovin*, they sure hit the spot with the damsels. Good for pagan babes as well.

My top five albums of all time? Hmm. Let's see. Probably I'd go with...

Bob Dylan, Desire
Bob Dylan, Blood on The Tracks
Bob Dylan, Hard Rain
Bob Dylan, Live at Budokan
Bob Dylan, Street Legal or Self Portrait

That might give the impression that I only listen to one kind of music, but that would be untrue...

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Megadeth - Wake up dead
Kate Bush - Experiment IV
Jason Becker - Perpetual Burn (awesome, read up about him, totally inspiring)

Although 5 is bloody hard, I'd echo a few comments on here that my list could well be different in 15 minutes!

Experiment IV was a single from the Whole Story album.

IfI had to pick my top 5 from those already listed:
Led Zep 3
Heroes - David Bowie
Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
Still - Joy Division

Prompted by mention above I must get 'This is the Sea' (The Waterboys) & 'Ritual de lo habitual' (Jane's Addiction): two great albums I haven't listened to in too long a time.

My own top 5 would include both Led Zep 3 & Heroes but also something by Sufjan Stevens & Mono, maybe Nick Cave.

Not much has lasted from my clubbing days: listened to it all too often.

Might include 'Sister' by Sonic Youth or 'Screamadelica' by Primal Scream

You're quite right, I do mean "Peace Sells" and as I was trying quickly to remember the album titles, again I got the Kate Bush album wrong. "The whole story" - sorry!!

After more thinking time though, I'm still going to go with my original 5.
