Bill Brooker, for so many years one of the leading lights in Scottish climbing, has died at the age of 79. A short obituary is here:

A tremendous character - as a young Aberdonian climber, I grew up on stories of Brooker and Patey's exploits on the local coastal crags (Brooker's Arete is still one of the finest Severes I've climbed) and into the Cairngorms. Sadly missed.
