getting rid of mildew

Hi All, does anyone have any tips on how to get mildew out of fabric? Have tried a hot wash to no avail.

bleach/peroxide, maybe 'vanish'? the black stuff , you might be able to scrub it out with a toothbrush.

BTW, if it's a tent....i used bicarb of soda solution, gentle blotting/ toothbrush scrubbing. And then on another tent.. just left it in the sun

In reply to Kelcat: If mildew is the same as mould and i think it is then white vinegar will kill it but will probably leave the original mark.
i live in a rented house with a bit of mould, white vinegar kills it
