For a long peak bagging walk where would you choose???

Helvellyn Range including Dollywaggon and Fairfield

OR

Langdale Pikes and Bowfell, Great End, Scafell Pike and Crinkle Crags?

Reasons for each please.

In reply to An Triubhas:

Helvellyns from Ambleside and over Fairfield to Clough Head because it is a single ridge which makes it a very satisfying linear walk even though ideally you need two cars (or an early bus).
Arguably the Langdale itinerary covers more spectacular ground and has more varied views but it is not as logical a walk.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm looking for spectacular views, classic peaks and a nice spot to wild camp maybe.....
In reply to An Triubhas:

You just can't compare them. They're very different in style and feel. It's really just a matter of mood ... And beyond all that the whole concept of 'peak bagging' is utterly meaningless, if you think about it for more than about three seconds.

IMO the Langdale Pikes and Scafell etc. have far more character than Helvellyn and Fairfield etc. I think it's all to do with the higher quality of the rock of the former.

helvellyn range beginning with threlkeld knotts (?) clough head etc - camp at grisedale tarn, if weather is crap you can whiz to dunmail raise or carry on over fairfield down either ridge to ambleside. great 2 dayer.

In reply to An Triubhas: For me Langdale with a overnight at Angle Tarn. More rock scenery on that route.

Good views on the other, particularly if you drop down to Red Tarn, thus incorporating the Edges but depends whether you are happy scrambling with a biggish sac on.

In reply to Wiley Coyote: Totally agree with that. Could also start at Rydal , do the rydal half of the horseshoe , down to grisdale tarn , and / or Seat Sandal and up onto Dollywagon . Then make your way along to Clough head over Helvellyn and the Dodds

In reply to Elprup:

What meaning does "peak bagging" have then?

Except, possibly, that the person concerned is a pillock
