Does anyone know how strict Scotrail are regarding booking bikes on to the Mallaig/Fort William/Glasgow trains? Am I likely to be refused carriage even if I have a valid rail ticket but no bike reservation?

Just checking in case I can't get a bike booked in advance.

It really depends on whether all the available bike spaces have been booked or not, they have space for 6 bikes but on busy periods these can all be pre booked. Best to just call Scotrail and book it on.

In reply to a lakeland climber: I once saw 6 very disappointed french cyclists turned off the train in Inverness because they had no booking , and it was the last train to wick that day. They reckoned they had been told in London that if they had a ticket it was ok . they argued until the driver came down by which time the train was 5 mins late leaving "Its my train, your not getting on" " Now get off." They did .
