Going from the bright sunlight of kitesurfing to the almost pitch black of a Flamenco bar certainly makes you think about your photography . The first was shot with a 580 exii on manual full power and camera on 1/1000s f 8 -f16 and the flamenco bar with the 580 at 1/64 power and camera on M 1/15 sec f4. Any comments as to how I could have improved them much appreciated.

Hey Nadir,

love the lens flare on image 390, the shot 391 in a nice shot too.

In reply to chris fox: thanks Chris , i wasn't happy with 390 as there were tiny little droplets of water that i couldn't see from the first shot i had taken but shooting direct into the sun just causes them all to be visible .

In reply to Nadir khan:

I think the droplets add to the shot, i also really like this

In reply to chris fox: That's one of my favourites, Lake Garda all girl kitesurfing camp last year . Just happened to be there when their official photographer cancelled and I got the gig . Talk about lucky : )

In reply to chris fox: yep , is that an L series 70-200 USM in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me .
 chris fox 30 May 2012
In reply to Nadir khan:

The L's certainly are a cut above the rest, my collection is still(and always) 1 lens short !!!
OP Nadir khan 30 May 2012
In reply to chris fox: although the most expensive aren't always the best , my 17-40 L is half the price of the 16-35 but just as good and my f4 70-200 is as sharp as the 2.8 70-200 at at least a third of the price . had a long chat with glynn Davies at menai bridge about lens snobbery and he uses the same kit as me and sells his work for over a grand . the most important bits of kit we have are not our lenses and camera bodies but our eyes and our brains , though saying that i do lust after the 24mm TSEii : )

In reply to Nadir khan:

Got my 70-200 2.8 a few years ago new on a good deal (think i paid about £600 !) I've had images used that I've taken on the 18-55 kit lens !

eh i keep looking at the TSE when i walk through shops.

Where you based?
In reply to Nadir khan:
Hi Nadir,
Some thoughts on your shots as requested, hopefully constructive and as its all subjective, just IMHO.
389 - I can't access it
390 - I would consider removing as much of the dust flare on the left of the bright area as I could. striking image though.
393 - More speed (power) to freeze her face. but not her dress (which is lovely) A head up shot may be better.
391 - Like it, depth of field and lighting just right. Be aware of whats going on in the background though, if you had dropped down you might have got the other musician clear of the mic stand.
392 - Not the best of the group, more power/speed and composition a bit mixed up.
Hope I'm not too harsh, just disregard what you dont agree with.
Cheers

In reply to Roy Plenderleith: Thanks , appreciate the feedback and agree with all the points made . Not making excuses but its a dark club and the cameras struggling to lock onto autofocus . you're right about the composition with the mic stand and was kicking myself to have messed up with that . the shutter speed versus power of the flash and still keeping some ambient atmosphere is just tricky and not sure i got the right combo, faster shutter would have darkened the ambient , iso already quite high. the shot you couldn't access i re edited so here's the link http://www.nadirkhanphotography.co.uk/image/397

In reply to chris fox: based near colchester in essex so a long way from any proper climbing ( southern sandstone doesn't count ) hence just having to find inspiration photographically any and everywhere . doing a MMA cage fight shoot soon

In reply to Nadir khan:

Yeh fair way from any rock !

If the autofocus was struggling have you thought about switching to manual focus? I switch over a bit, but i learnt on the old manual focus/wind-on cameras of the 80's !
